The body of your essay is where you develop your story or argument. Once you have finished your research and produced several pages of notes, go through them with a highlighter and mark the most important ideas, the key points.

Anything you write will benefit from learning these simple parts of an essay:

Your introduction is one short paragraph, just a sentence or two, that states your thesis (your main idea) and introduces your reader to your topic. After your title, this is your next best chance to hook your reader. Here are some examples:

Choose the top three ideas and write each one at the top of a clean page. Now go through your notes again and pull out supporting ideas for each key point. You don't need a lot, just two or three for each one.

Introduction

Before you can start writing, you must have an idea to write about. If you haven't been assigned a topic, it's easier than you might think to come up with one of your own.

Your title should make someone want to read what you have to say. Make it provocative.

Put your idea into a single sentence. This is your thesis statement, your main idea.

If your topic calls for it and if time allows, you may want to consider conducting quick interviews with experts on the subject. These will serve as a primary source for your essay.

Generally, the thesis statement will present your main topic while also expressing what position you hold regarding the subject.

After you have brainstormed and researched, write down your thesis statement. A thesis statement consists of one or two sentences that sum up the primary subject or argument of your essay.

• What is something I’m passionate about?
• What is one thought or idea I want to share?
• Is there any misconception I want to correct?
• What is the best way to present this topic of information (with regard to the types of essays)?

Are your examples bringing your ideas to life? Check the beginning – is it awesome? Does it make sense?

You’re brainstorming at this point, so just write down any ideas that come into your mind.

Then ask yourself if you would like to write a conclusion tying everything together.

Still, some of the best mission statements incorporate a much broader sense of mission that includes, or at least implies, the mission of ownership.

If you have a special view on your relationship with employees, write it into the mission statement. If your business is friendly to families, or to remote virtual workplaces, put that into your mission.

Starbucks expands on its mission statement by stating its core values. This is really an extension of the mission statement and explains how they focus on their customers, how they grow their company, and how they work with employees. You can read their values here .

Good mission statements serve multiple functions, define objectives, and live for a long time. So, edit. This step is worth it.

This isn’t literally part of the mission statement. Rather, it’s an important thing to have in your head while you write the mission statement. It’s in the background, between the words. If you’re having trouble getting started, make a quick list of what your company does and doesn’t do.

What is it about certain brands that keep us coming back? What is it about them that makes us spend more time, money, or effort over other options? Is it the price? Maybe the convenience? Or is it something more?

Speaking of variations, it’s important to note that your mission statement will likely evolve over time as your business grows and changes. So, don’t be afraid to make adjustments when it seems necessary and avoid looking for the perfect version of your mission statement.
